“Financial Stability in Unstable Times”
Michael Theurer has been a member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank since September 2024. In this role he oversees the Directorates General Banking and Financial Supervision and Financial Stability. Prior to joining the Bundesbank, he served as Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport from 2021 to 2024, focusing on railways, environment, and European affairs. From 2017 to 2024, Mr. Theurer was a member of the German Bundestag, and between 2009 and 2017, he served as a Member of the European Parliament, where he chaired the Committee on Budgetary Control from 2011 to 2014.
Mr. Theurer holds a degree in economics from the University of Tübingen. In addition to his role at the Bundesbank, Mr. Theurer is a member of the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism at the European Central Bank, a member of the German Financial Stability Committee, and a member of the Committee on the Global Financial System (CGFS) at the Bank for International Settlements.
