Edward McFadden served on the Board of the American Council on Germany, serving the maximum consecutive years under the ACG bylaws and cycling off in the spring of 2024. A member of the ACG Young Leader cohort of 2002, he has served on the YL Conference Steering Committee for more than two decades.
He currently serves as the Senior Vice President for the American Financial Services Association, the national trade association for the consumer credit/financial services industry – whose members include the vehicle finance arms of Daimler, BMW, and Volkswagen, among others – as well as a Senior Adviser at Patomak Global Partners, a financial services consultancy.
Prior to joining AFSA, Mr. McFadden served as the Chief Communications Officer for the Archdiocese of Washington (2015-2019), as well as the Pontifical Council on Social Communications under the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communications; Vice President for Global Public Policy Communications for Verizon (2005-2014); Special Assistant and Chief Speechwriter to Attorney General John Ashcroft, as well as an occasional speechwriter to the Executive Office of the President of the United States (2001-2004); Washington Bureau Chief and Senior Editor at Reader’s Digest (1992-2001) and a Deputy Features Editor and Editorial Writer for The Wall Street Journal/Europe (1987-1992).
He currently serves on the Board of Overseers for the Dominican House of Studies of Washington, DC, as well as the Board of Voter Gravity, a privately held data technology company. He has also ghostwritten or edited 12 books, including New York Times bestselling books on the history of wine in America and the early days of Silicon Valley. He is a graduate of the University of San Francisco (BA in government), the St. Ignatius Institute (a four-year Great Books program), and the Stanford Graduate School of Business (MBA).
