Who is eligible for the Young Leaders Conference?
The Young Leaders Conference is open to young professional American citizens living and working in the United States and German citizens living and working in the EU. They must be between the ages of 28 and 38 at the time of the conference and show promise and leadership in their given field.
When is the next Young Leaders Conference?
The 2026 American-German Young Leaders Conference will take place in Berlin from July 19 to July 25. American participants are expected to arrive on July 18.
When are the applications due for the next Young Leaders Conference?
Nominations are due by January 30, 2026, and Applications are due by February 13, 2026.
Where should my materials be sent?
All nominations and applications must be submitted through ACG’s website. Nominations and applications should not be emailed, however letters of recommendation can be emailed to YL@acgusa.org.
How many people will be chosen to participate in the conference?
Typically, 25 Americans and 25 Germans are selected each year. The number may vary slightly.
Do I need to know how to speak German?
No, it is not required. The conference’s working language is English.
If chosen, what kind of activities might be part of the conference?
The conference consists of various activities to engage all participants. They will participate in discussions and working groups and meet with high-level officials, opinion shapers, and analysts. Meetings vary each year. However, past visits have included the offices of the Federal Parliament, the Reichstag, various Ministries, corporations, and startup incubators. Participants should come ready for a dynamic and engaging week of programming where everyone actively shares.
If chosen, what are my responsibilities?
Each Young Leader will have an assigned task, such as a presenter, facilitator, or rapporteur during the conference. Before the conference, participants will be asked to list their preferred tasks, expertise, insights, and perspectives before being assigned.
Is there a fee to attend the conference?
The ACG covers the cost of flights and/or train tickets, hotels, and meals for Young Leaders. However, once selected Young Leaders are asked to pay a $500 administration fee to attend the Conference. Scholarships and corporate sponsorships are available.
May I be accompanied to the conference?
No spouses, significant others, or friends will be included in any part of the conference.
What if I cannot participate for the entire length of the conference?
Young Leaders are expected to participate in all conference activities. Programming typically begins around 9:00 am and continues through dinner.
