The American Council on Germany will host a discussion and reception on “From Fragmentation to Scale: Confronting the Pressure Points in Europe’s Capital Markets” with Dirk Schmitz, Country Head of Germany, Austria and Eastern Europe at BlackRock and CEO, BlackRock Asset Management Deutschland AG.
Dirk Schmitz is the Country Head of Germany, Austria and Eastern Europe at BlackRock and CEO, BlackRock Asset Management Deutschland AG. Additionally, he serves as Regional Head of DACH (EEGA and Switzerland), a role he was appointed to in April 2023.
Mr. Schmitz joined BlackRock in January 2018 from Deutsche Bank where for several years he led the entire domestic Corporate Banking & Securities Division, through which the bank bundled its banking and capital markets business for institutional and corporate clients. In his most recent role at Deutsche Bank Mr. Schmitz was Head of the Global Markets Division for Germany. Prior to that he worked for Morgan Stanley for 10 years. He was located in London where he led their structured products salesforce for EMEA as well as in Frankfurt where he served as a board member of Morgan Stanley Bank AG with the responsibility for their Markets business in Germany and Austria. Mr. Schmitz started his career working for JP Morgan in New York and London in their swaps and derivatives department.
Mr. Schmitz earned a Diplom Kaufmann degree from University of Bayreuth in Germany.
