Abstract: In contrast to other European countries, a right-wing populist party has not been successful in Germany for a long time. However, in the context of the European economic solidarity measures, the eurosceptic AfD was founded in 2013. In the following years, it has managed to get into many state parliaments. The refugee crisis contributed to a further rise of the AfD, changing the political environment in Germany.
