Dr. Jens Jokisch assumed the post of German Consul General in New York on September 1, 2026. Prior to this, he held a number of roles in the German Federal Foreign Office for over two decades, including most recently as the Commissioner for Crisis Management, heading the Crisis Task Force of the Federal Government. He previously served as Head of the Crisis Response Center, Head of the Refugee and Migration Task Force, Deputy Director for the Division for Policy Issues in European Affairs, advisor at the office of the State Secretary and at the International Law section of the Legal Department. His postings abroad include Islamabad (Pakistan) and Damascus (Syria), both times as Minister Counsellor.
Dr. Jokisch studied Law in Passau and Toulouse after completing military service from 1989-1992, including training as a reserve officer. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Passau in European Law in 1999. He is married and has four children.
