Atlanta: The Rise of the German Right

The Atlanta Warburg Chapter, the World Affairs Councils of America, and the World Affairs Council of Atlanta will host a discussion and reception with Metin Hakverdi, Member of the German Bundestag (SPD). 

There is a $15 charge for members and a $25 charge for nonmembers to attend this event.

Metin Hakverdi joined the SPD in 2002, and has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2013. He serves on the Bundestag’s Committee on European Union Affairs and on the Finance Committee. He is the Chairman of the USA/North America Working Group within the SPD Parliamentary Group and a member of the German-American Parliamentary Friendship Group in the German Bundestag.

Before being elected to the Bundestag, Mr. Hakverdi was a member of the Parliament of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg from 2008 to 2013, where he was on the Budget Committee and the Committee of Public Companies and Assets. He attended high school in Simi Valley, California, in 1985/86 and studied law at the Christian-Albrecht University in Kiel and at Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law. He was licensed to practice law in 2000. He is a member of Atlantik-Brücke e.V.


This discussion is being held under the auspices Deutschlandjahr USA 2018/2019 – Year of German-American Friendship, which is funded by German Federal Foreign office, implemented by the Goethe-Institut, and supported by the Federation of German Industries (BDI).
