DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The American Council on Germany will host a discussion and luncheon with Dr. Berend Diekmann\, Head of Division for the United States\, Canada\, and Mexico in the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE). \nDr. Berend Diekmann is the Head of Division for the United States\, Canada\, and Mexico\, in the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE). In this capacity\, he is responsible for transatlantic trade issues\, CETA\, TTC\, trade negotiations with Mexico\, and all current topics related to transatlantic economic relations. Until late 2014\, he was also responsible for external economic policy and OECD. \nDr. Diekmann has published extensively on issues such as public finance and fiscal federalism\, EU financing\, the policy of international organizations such as IMF\, WTO\, World Bank and UNCTAD\, international trade issues\, and current challenges facing the U.S. economy. He holds a Master of Economics from Kiel University and a Ph.D. in Economics from Mainz University.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:East Meets West: Recalibrating the Economic Interdependence Between Europe and China
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The ACG will host a discussion and reception with Thomas Heck\, Partner and the German Foreign Business Network Leader at PwC US\, and Frauke Steiner\, Partner and the Leader of the German Business Network in the U.S at EY. \n  \nThomas Heck is a Partner on Secondment and the German Foreign Business Network Leader at PwC US. In this role\, he is serving German MNCs with operations in the United States and collaborates with PwC teams from all PwC Lines of Services in the U.S. and Germany. His clients include companies from various industries such as automotive\, chemicals and retail & consumer products. In his previous role\, Mr. Heck was the Head of the China Business Group at PwC Germany and Chairman of the European China Business Group at PwC from August 2016 until April 2024. He advised Chinese companies on their investments in Europe as well as European companies with their investment in China and Asia. During a secondment to China from 2012 – 2016\, Mr. Heck led the German Business Group of PwC Hong-Kong and Mainland China. During a secondment to New York 2005-2007\, he served US MNCs as an audit manager. \nMr. Heck graduated from Hochschule Pforzheim in 1998. From 2000 to 2005\, he was a guest lecturer at Pforzheim Business School. From 2012 to 2016\, he was a guest lecturer at Tongji University in Shanghai. Mr. Heck is a frequent speaker at conferences and guest on podcasts. \nFrauke Steiner is a Partner in the Assurance practice at EY Germany and has been assigned to EY US since summer 2024. She leads the firm’s German Business Network in the U.S.\, where she supports German\, Austrian\, and Swiss businesses. She has significant industry experience in the automotive sector and industrial production. \nMs. Steiner joined EY in 2006 and worked in Nuremberg. Before her secondment to New York\, she spent eight years in China as one of three GBN representative for China auditing\, coordinating engagements\, and advising German-speaking clients doing businesses in Greater China. Ms. Steiner has several years’ experience auditing listed DAX40 enterprises including the assessment of internal control environment (SOX) as well as providing audit and advisory services to mid-size and larger companies in Germany and subsidiaries overseas. \nMs. Steiner studied Business Administration at the University of Nuremberg and holds a dual degree Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) from Tsinghua University and INSEAD European Business School.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
