On October 5 the ACG partnered with the Aspen Institute Germany to host the sixth discussion in this series focused on affordable housing and urban development at the state-level in both countries. The discussion included three German and American state legislators: Dr. Anke Frieling (CDU), Hamburg Parliament; Mathias Schulz (SPD), Berlin House of Representatives; and Marvin E. Holmes, Jr. (D), Maryland House of Delegates.

The ACG regularly hosts a discussion with a journalist based in Germany on the topics making the headlines and shaping political discourse. On October 4, the ACG hosted a Kaffeepause with Bloomberg Opinion columnist Andreas Kluth.

On September 30, the ACG hosted a virtual discussion with two award-winning journalists who grew up in the former GDR about the “parallel societies” that have developed in contemporary Germany. Both from the Free State of Saxony, Vladimir Balzer grew up in Leipzig and is with Deutschlandfunk, and Anja Heyde was born in Leisnig and is a well-known television host and journalist.

On September 15 the ACG held a virtual discussion with POLITICO’s Energy Policy Correspondent America Hernandez about the recent meeting of Europe’s energy ministers and what the future holds for Europe’s energy market given the challenges posed by the war in Ukraine.

On September 13, the ACG and the Council on Foreign Relations hosted a virtual discussion on the future of German foreign policy with Tara Hariharan, Managing Director, Global Macro Research, NWI Management LP; Board Member, The American Council on Germany; CFR Term Member, and Timo Lochocki, Senior Fellow, Mercator Foundation; 2022 Recipient, McCloy Fellowship on Global Trends, The American Council on Germany.
