What will be offered in 2017?
The American Council on Germany plans to offer the McCloy Leadership Mission on Agriculture, Food Security, and Resource Scarcity, as well as the McCloy Leadership Mission on Urban Affairs and Sustainability in the fall of 2017. The ACG is not currently offering fact-finding missions in other areas.

In 2017, Americans in the field of urban affairs will travel to Germany and Germans in the field of agriculture will travel to the United States.

Who is eligible to apply?
Participants must be in relatively early stages of their careers (under the age of 45) and working in the fields of urban affairs or agriculture in order to qualify. The ACG will also consider applications from journalists with a proven background in the areas of urban affairs or agriculture. Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen living in the United States or a German citizen living in Germany. Participants must have completed a bachelor’s degree.

What documents do I need to apply for a Leadership Mission?
To apply for a Leadership Mission, you must submit a one-page personal statement on why you believe you would benefit from the program, a current resume, and two letters of recommendation. Paperwork must be submitted via email by May 31, 2017, in order to be considered for the fall programs.

What is expected of participants?
Each participant is expected to commit to the full length of time, 10-13 days, and attend all meetings. Participants must submit an eight- to 10-page analytical report based on their findings. Reports must be submitted within two months of their return to their home country.

What expenses are covered by the ACG?
Transatlantic airfare is covered, as well as preapproved domestic travel expenses. In addition, the ACG issues a $200 per diem stipend to cover room and board. The per diem stipend is released to participants two weeks before departure. The initial stipend is reduced by $750, pending the submission of a final report. Once the report is submitted, the final allotment of the stipend will be released.

Do I need a special visa in order to participate in a Leadership Mission?
Participants are not required to obtain any additional visas in order to take part in the Leadership Mission. German participants must register with ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) prior to departure.
