DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Boston Warburg Chapter and WorldBoston will host a discussion and luncheon with Anja Wehler-Schoeck\, Resident Director of Jordan and Iraq for the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES).  \nThere is no charge to attend this event. Please RSVP to here by May 11. \nAnja Wehler-Schoeck currently serves as Resident Director of the Amman Office of the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES). In this capacity\, she is responsible for the foundation’s work in Jordan and Iraq. FES Amman focuses on promoting democracy and social justice with activities covering a broad spectrum\, ranging from parliamentary consultations to youth projects and a special line of work dedicated to political Islam and extremism. Ms. Wehler-Schoeck joined FES in 2005 and has held various positions at the Berlin headquarters of the organization. Before relocating to Jordan in 2012\, she served as Desk Officer for the United States\, Canada\, and Japan. Prior to joining FES\, her assignments led her to Tunisia\, Jordan\, and the United States. She is the author of a number of German and English publications on the Middle East and is a regular contributor to various media with her analyses on Jordan\, Iraq\, political Islam\, and security policy. Ms. Wehler-Schoeck holds a Dual Master’s Degree in Political Science from Sciences Po Paris\, France\, and the Free University of Berlin\, Germany.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The San Diego Warburg Chapter will host a discussion and luncheon with Professor Hannes Adomeit.  \nThere is a $30 charge for ACG Members and a $45 charge for nonmembers to attend this event. RSVP here by May 10. \nProfessor Hannes Adomeit was most recently a Bosch Public Policy Fellow at the Transatlantic Academy in Washington\, DC\, writing a paper on German-Russian relations under Merkel and Putin. Until 2014\, he was Professor for Russian and European Studies at the Warsaw campus of the College of Europe. Prior to that\, he was a Research Associate and head of the research section on Russia\, Eastern Europe\, and the Caucasus at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs in Berlin. His academic degrees include\, in Germany\, an M.A. in Political Science from the Freie Universität in Berlin and\, in the United States\, an M.A. degree in International Relations\, a Certificate in Russian Studies\, and a Ph.D. with distinction\, all from Columbia University in New York City. In the past\, he also held teaching and/or research positions at institutions in several countries\, including the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London\, the Royal Military College of Canada\, and the Rand Corporation in Santa Monica\, California. From 1989 to 1997\, he was Professor of International Politics and Director of the Program on Russia and East-Central Europe at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplo­macy in Boston as well as a Fellow at the Harvard Russian Research Center. He has written many arti­cles in academic journals and books\, including Imperial Overstretch: Germany in Soviet Policy from Stalin to Gorbachev: An Analysis Based on New Archival Evidence\, Memoirs\, and Interviews. He was born in 1942 in Memel\, East Prussia\, now Klaipeda\, Lithuania.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

His election was historic in Germany\, as he was the first Chairman of the party Die Linke (The Left) to be appointed as the leader of a federal state in Germany. His leadership as Minister-President is supported by the Social Democratic Party as well as the Green Party in a joint coalition. Born and raised in the Federal Republic of Germany\, Mr. Ramelow moved to Thuringia after unification in 1990 and has since been a politically active resident. He acted as a trade union official (1990-1999)\, when he was Chairman of Handel\, Banken und Versicherungen (HBV)\, then a member of the Thuringian Parliament (1999-2005)\, and leader of The Left in Thuringia (2009-2014). Between 2005 and 2009\, he was a member of the German Bundestag for The Left and its deputy leader.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

He is responsible for the Center’s long-range planning and institutional development\, with a special emphasis on new research initiatives and the Center’s international expansion. He oversees a diverse range of projects\, including the Center’s annual\, multi-country Global Attitudes survey\, global assessments of middle class growth\, regional studies of religion and social change\, and comparative analyses of migration\, ethnicity\, and cultural identity. Prior to joining the Pew Research Center\, Bell served as a senior official at the U.S. State Department\, most recently as Director of International Opinion Research. Bell supported strategic communication teams at the State Department and White House and regularly consulted on U.S. government efforts to combat violent extremism. Since joining the Pew Research Center\, Bell has authored a number of articles\, including Russians Have Their Own Ideas of Democracy\, Will Enthusiasm for Democracy Endure in Egypt and Elsewhere?\, The World’s Muslims: Unity and Diversity and Religion in Latin America: Widespread Change in a Historically Catholic Region. RSVP here no later than Wednesday\, May 17. \n\n\n\nCornelius Adebahr is a Nonresident Fellow at Carnegie Europe. His research focuses on European foreign policy in a broad sense\, from integrating the Western Balkans into Euro-Atlantic structures to the European Union’s role in the negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program to the impact of the economic crisis on Europe’s global role. Since 2000\, Mr. Adebahr has been the owner of a political consultancy in Berlin. In addition\, he is an Associate Fellow at the Research Institute of the German Council on Foreign Relations as well as a member of Team Europe\, an experts’ network of the European Commission. From 2005 to 2011\, Mr. Adebahr was a lecturer at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt\, teaching a master’s course on European foreign policy. In 2012 and 2013\, he taught political science at the University of Tehran in Iran. He is a frequent commentator for major German and international print\, radio\, and television media outlets\, and has also testified before the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament and provided written evidence to the UK House of Lords. \n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
