DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The ACG and the Robert Bosch Fellowship Alumni Association will host a discussion and luncheon with La Neice Collins\, (2004-2005 Robert Bosch Fellowship Alum) Program Manager\, Advocacy and Social Impact for the United Nations; Ambassador Florian Laudi\, Deputy Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations; and Rafael Peralta\, North American Director of the United Nations Environment Programme. \nThis event is only open to members. \nLa Neice Collins is responsible for Public Information and Multimedia at the United Nations\, currently serving as the Program Manager\, Advocacy and Social Impact. Ms. Collins brings over 20 years of experience in communications\, advocacy\, and development\, having served in several UN offices including New York\, Geneva\, Bangkok\, and Vienna\, most recently serving as the Spokesperson for the 80th President of the UN General Assembly. She has also worked as a gender focal point for the Department of Global Communications (DGC) and has experience with issues related to youth engagement\, sustainable development\, human rights\, and peacebuilding. Prior to joining the UN\, Ms. Collins was an award-winning television and radio producer in New York\, Washington\, DC\, Los Angeles\, Berlin\, Türkiye and Iraq. She has also worked as a strategic partner manager for news partnerships at Facebook\, where she focused on news integrity\, news literacy\, and building sustainable revenue models for media organizations. Ms. Collins holds a Master of Science degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and a degree in political science and mass communications from the University of California\, Berkeley. \nAmbassador Florian Laudi has served as Deputy Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations since July 2026. Ambassador Laudi joined the Federal Foreign Office in 2002. Before taking up his new post\, Ambassador Laudi served as the Director for the United Nations and Counterterrorism at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin since 2022. From 2003 to 2005\, Ambassador Laudi served at the German Embassy Kabul\, Afghanistan and was in charge of constitutional reform and police reconstruction. From 2005 to 2008\, Ambassador Laudi worked on Middle East issues (Iraq\, Iran\, sanctions) at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Between 2008 and 2012\, he was assigned Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations in New York\, covering non-proliferation and disarmament issues\, including the Iranian nuclear file. From 2012 to 2016\, Ambassador Laudi was Deputy European Correspondent at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. From early 2017 to 2019 he Laudi led the Brexit team at the German Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels\, serving as Brexit Delegate of the Federal Government. From 2019 to 2020 Ambassador Laudi was the Special Envoy for Ukraine and Head of the Ukraine Task Force in the Federal Foreign Office\, from 2020 to 2021 Head of Division for the United Nations Security Council\, General Assembly\, Peacekeeping\, incl. while Germany was a non-permanent member. Ambassador Laudi obtained his law degree at the University of Passau\, Germany and the Universidade Católica Portuguesa\, Portugal. His practical legal traineeship led him to courts\, public authorities and law firms in Hamburg\, Germany; Lisbon\, Portugal and Milano\, Italy. He is married\, with two children. \nRafael Peralta is the Director for the New York Office and North America from July 2026. Mr. Peralta previously served as UNEP’s Regional Director for North America from July 2023\, and as UNEP’s Chief of Staff from April 2021\, having previously worked as Acting Chief of Staff and as Deputy Chief of Staff. Mr. Peralta has over 20 years’ experience at the United Nations and beyond\, working at the intersection of sustainable development\, peace and security. Prior to joining UNEP\, Mr. Peralta served as Senior Political Affairs Officer in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations in New York from 2015 to 2018\, working in support of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic. Earlier\, he worked in West Africa and the Sahel supporting political process in the region\, as well as on post-conflict stabilization in Somalia and Haiti. His expertise includes international diplomacy\, inter-agency UN coordination\, environmental management and management of large organizations. Before joining the United Nations\, Mr. Peralta worked with international organizations in Amman\, Pristina and Sarajevo in different capacities. A Spanish national\, Mr. Peralta holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Brussels School of International Studies-University of Kent at Canterbury and a degree in Law from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Dr. Berman’s forthcoming book is entitled: The Political Consequences of Economic Ideas: Neoliberalism\, the Left\, and the Fate of Democracy (Oxford 2027). She has also published in a wide variety of non-scholarly publications\, including the New York Times\, The Wall Street Journal\, Washington Post\, Foreign Affairs\, VOX\, The Guardian\, and Dissent. She is on the boards of The Journal of Democracy\, Political Science Quarterly\, and Persuasion. Dr. Berman holds an Honorary Doctorate from Uppsala University in Sweden. \nDr. Alexander Görlach is an Adjunct Professor at NYU Gallatin School where he teaches democratic theory. Prior to that\, he had various positions as visiting scholar and as fellow at Harvard University in the United States\, and Cambridge University and Oxford University in the United Kingdom. He was a senior fellow to the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs in New York and is a senior advisor to the Berggruen Institute in Los Angeles. Dr. Görlach holds a ThD in comparative religion and a PhD in linguistics. His academic interests include democratic theory\, politics and religion\, and theories of secularism\, pluralism and cosmopolitanism. In the academic year 2017-18 he was a visiting scholar at National Taiwan University and City University Hong Kong. Since then\, he focuses on the rise of China and what it means for the democracies in East Asia. \nDr. Görlach is an honorary professor of ethics and theology at Leuphana University in Lüneburg\, Germany. In addition\, he is the founder of the debate-magazine The European\, that he also ran as its editor in chief from 2009 to 2015. Today\, he serves as an op-ed contributor to the New York Times\, Neue Zürcher Zeitung\, and the South China Morning Post. He is a columnist for the business magazine Wirtschaftswoche\, Deutsche Welle and Focus Online. SUMMARY:New York: The Global Order in Transformation:  How Can and Will Europe Ensure Its Own Security and Promote Stability in the International System?
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The ACG and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung of New York will host a discussion and luncheon with Klaus Welle\, Special Adviser to the European Commissioner for Defense and Space\, Chair of the Academic Council of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies\, and former Secretary-General of the European Parliament. \nEurope’s security environment is undergoing significant change. Russia’s war against Ukraine\, wider geopolitical shifts\, and renewed investment in European defense are reshaping discussions about Europe’s role in regional and international security. Against this backdrop\, the roundtable will explore how a more capable and strategically engaged Europe can strengthen both regional and global security. The discussion will consider European rearmament\, transatlantic cooperation\, and Europe’s broader role in supporting international peace and security through the United Nations and other multilateral institutions. In particular\, the exchange will examine how Europe can exercise greater leadership in conflict prevention and mediation\, peacekeeping and peacebuilding\, the protection of human rights\, and the defense of the principles of the UN Charter. More broadly\, participants will consider how stronger defense capabilities can be combined with sustained diplomatic and multilateral engagement to promote stability in an increasingly complex international environment. Following introductory remarks by Klaus Welle\, participants will be invited to engage in an open roundtable discussion. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nKlaus Welle served as the Secretary-General of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2022. In May 2025\, he was appointed Special Advisor to the European Commissioner for Defense and Space. He is currently the Chairman of the Academic Council at the Martens Centre for European Studies (Brussels) and the inaugural ‘Leader in Residence’ at the Moynihan Center at the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at The City College of New York. He is also a guest professor in practice at the London School of Economics and a visiting professor at KU Leuven. \nEarlier in his career\, Mr. Welle served in various roles at the European Parliament\, including Head of the Cabinet of the President (2007-2009)\, Director-General for Internal Policies (2004-2007)\, and Secretary-General for the European People’s Party (EPP) in Parliament (1999-2003). Kranen has more than 25 years of responsible management experience in the public and international sectors as well as profound insights into German European policy and European integration issues.\nAfter completing his studies in Cologne\, the graduate economist held numerous important positions during his career\, including personal advisor to the German Finance Minister Theo Waigel\, speechwriter and economic advisor to the German Federal President Horst Köhler\, as well as Senior Advisor to the International Monetary Fund for many years and financial advisor to the international organisations in Geneva. During the German G8 presidency\, he organised a high-level G8 meeting on the subject of remittances. During his time at the Federal Ministry of Finance\, he was actively involved in shaping parliamentary oversight of the European Stability Mechanism\, among other things. Before moving to Washington\, D.C. in August 2024 as Head of the Finance Division in the German Embassy\, Dirk H. Kranen was Head of Division in the European Department of the Federal Ministry of Finance. In this role\, he leads all regulatory and legislative strategic engagement for MBNAC. Prior to Mercedes-Benz\, Mr. Wenk was the Vice President of Government Affairs of Kia Motors Corporation Washington. He previously worked for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce\, where he served as the Executive Director of International Policy and Chief Trade Lobbyist. \nPrior to the Chamber\, Mr. Wenk directed international trade policy at the National Association of Manufacturers\, advocating on behalf of its members with the administration and Congress. Mr. Wenk spent five years on Capitol Hill working for the House Small Business Committee and U.S. Representatives Steve Chabot (R-Ohio) and Dave Camp (R-Michigan). Born and raised in Ann Arbor\, Michigan\, Mr. Wenk holds a Master of Arts in Political Management and Corporate Public Affairs & Government Relations from the George Washington University in Washington\, D.C.\, and his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Spanish from Indiana University in Bloomington\, Indiana. \nCorinna Wolf has led Infineon’s sustainability department since June 2024 and reports to the Infineon Executive Board. She is responsible for the company’s sustainability strategy and oversees its implementation across all business units. In this role\, she plays a key role in driving Infineon’s decarbonization efforts not only within the company itself but also across its products and applications. Starting in June 2024\, Infineon will become the first semiconductor company worldwide to provide its customers with the CO2 footprint of its products at a level of detail and transparency that is unprecedented in the industry. \nMs. Wolf is a passionate advocate for sustainability\, innovation\, and digitalization in close alignment with growth. She believes that only through this combination can the urgently needed progress be achieved. Previously\, Ms. Wolf led marketing communications\, partnership management\, and new application initiatives within Infineon’s Power Sensor & Systems business unit. In this role\, she was responsible for all product and application campaigns\, trade shows\, and events; for testing innovative formats to position Infineon in the areas of decarbonization and digitalization; and for generating revenue and strengthening brand positioning through partnerships. \nFrom 2016 to 2022\, Ms. Wolf worked as a Global HR Business Partner for Infineon’s CMO\, where she drove key transformation projects in sales and marketing for Infineon as well as digitalization efforts. From 2009 to 2015\, Corinna worked for ENGIE\, a French energy conglomerate. During this time\, she lived and worked in Brussels for three years and in Milan for half a year. From 1979 to 2014\, he was a continuous Member of the European Parliament\, serving as its President from 2007 to 2009. Previously\, from 1999 to 2007\, he was Chairman of the EPP-ED Group in the European Parliament. From January 2010 to the end of December 2017\, he served as Chairman of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and is currently its Representative for European Affairs. \nProf. Dr. Pöttering is the initiator and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the House of European History\, which opened in Brussels in May 2017.From 2018 to 2022\, he was President of the “Former Members Association” of the European Parliament in Brussels. He previously served as Head of the Crisis Response Center\, Head of the Refugee and Migration Task Force\, Deputy Director for the Division for Policy Issues in European Affairs\, advisor at the office of the State Secretary and at the International Law section of the Legal Department. His postings abroad include Islamabad (Pakistan) and Damascus (Syria)\, both times as Minister Counsellor. \n\nDr. Jokisch studied Law in Passau and Toulouse after completing military service from 1989-1992\, including training as a reserve officer. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Factors Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy and is a Distinguished graduate of the Air Command and Staff College. \nAmbassador Gordon Sondland is a BENS member and a member of BENS’ Ambassador’s Council. In 2018\, he was appointed to serve as the 20th U.S. Ambassador to the European Union by President Donald Trump and was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate in June 2018. He served as the U.S. Ambassador to the EU until February 2020. In this role\, he was one of the highest-ranking U.S. officials in Europe and his portfolio included trade\, energy\, national security\, defense\, agriculture\, and several other files. \nAmbassador Sondland’s community service includes positions on Oregon Governor Kulongoski’s transition team\, as well as service on the Commission for White House Fellowships to which he was appointed by President George W. Bush. He was elected as its Chairman in 2009 and he served until 2011. Ambassador Sondland was appointed by Governor Kulongoski as Chairman to the Governor’s Office of Film and Television in 2002. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nThe American Council on Germany cordially invites you to a Roundtable Discussion and Luncheon with Bundestag Member Caroline Bosbach (CDU/CSU) and other members of the Parliamentary Advisory Council on Sustainable Development and Future-Related Matters\, on “Building the Sustainable Economy of Tomorrow: The Role of Startups\, Industry\, and Policymakers”. \n\nCaroline Bosbach has been a member of the Bundestag (CDU/CSU parliamentary group) since March 2025\, representing the Rheinisch-Bergischer district. She currently serves as the Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Group for Small and Medium Sized Businesses and is a deputy member of the Committee on Internal Affairs\, as well as the Committee on Labor and Social Affairs. Ms. Bosbach is also a member of the Parliamentary Advisory Council on Sustainable Development and Future-Related Matters and the Committee on Agriculture\, Food\, and Rural Affairs. Since 2023\, she has also worked as regulator manager at Stromkontor Group in the Technology Park in Bensberg\, a network operator for electricity\, gas\, and heating networks. \nMs. Bosbach studied business communication management in Berlin and Rotterdam\, NL. After receiving her Masters in 2017 she engaged in strategy consulting at a communications agency and was a lecturer at Cologne Business School in 2018. Afterwards she worked as a political advisor at the local and federal level\, including five years at Wiesbaden City Hall\, and later as an advisor to Bettina Wiesmann (Member of the German Bundestag) and for the SME Parliamentary Group of the CDU/CSU Bundestag faction. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nThe American Council on Germany cordially invites you to a Discussion and Luncheon with Burkhard Balz Member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank on “The Future of Money: The Role of Stable Coins and Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)”. \n\nBurkhard Balz has been a member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank since September 2018. He is responsible for the Directorates General Payments and Settlement Systems\, Cash Management\, Digital Euro and International Central Bank Dialogue. Since January 2024\, he is an alternate member of the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements. Prior to this\, he was a member of the European Parliament (CDU) and served as the EPP Group’s Coordinator on the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs starting in 2014. Before his time in the European Parliament\, Mr. Balz was the Head of the Department for Institutional Clients at Commerzbank AG from 2004 to 2009. Among other things\, Ms. Lindner is responsible for the news coverage of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the German parliament. Ms. Lindner studied Political Science at Leipzig University in Saxony and discovered her enthusiasm for radio at the training station “mephisto 97.6.” After graduating from university\, she worked as a freelance journalist for “MDR sputnik” and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as well as Deutschlandradio. She completed her journalistic training at Deutschlandradio in Berlin. In 2013\, Ms. Lindner moved back to Saxony as a regional correspondent for Deutschlandradio\, where she covered the early evolution of the AfD and the anti-asylum movement Pegida. In 2024\, she received the prize from the Bundespressekonferenz\, the association of capital studio journalists\, for her reporting about the AfD and Eastern Germany.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Emerson. \n\n\n\n\nThe American Council on Germany and the Freunde des American Council on Germany e.V. cordially invite you to a discussion and reception with Ambassador John B. Emerson\, Former U.S. Ambassador to Germany\, Vice Chairman at Capital Group International\, and Chairman of the American Council on Germany on “Navigating a Fragmented\, Multipolar World.” \nAmbassador John B. Emerson was named Chairman of the American Council on Germany in January 2018. He is Vice Chairman at Capital Group International. Previously\, he was the U.S. Ambassador to Germany from 2013 to 2017. In 2015\, Ambassador Emerson received the State Department’s Sue M. Cobb Award for Exemplary Diplomatic Service\, an award given annually to one non-career Ambassador. In 2017\, the Secretary of the Navy and the Director of the CIA awarded him their highest civilian honors for his service. \nPrior to accepting the ambassadorial posting\, Amb. Emerson was President of Private Client Services for the Capital Group Companies. Before joining Capital\, he was Deputy Assistant to President Clinton where he coordinated his economic conferences\, served as the president’s liaison to the nation’s governors\, and led the administration’s efforts to obtain congressional approval of the GATT Uruguay Round Agreement and the extension of China s MFN trading status. Additionally\, he was appointed by President Obama to serve on his Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations. Before working in the Clinton White House\, he served as Los Angeles Chief Deputy City Attorney and was a partner in the law firm of Manatt\, Phelps\, Rothenberg\, and Phillips. \nIn addition to his role as Chairman of the American Council on Germany\, he serves on the boards of the Pacific Council on International Policy and the German Marshall Fund of the United States and is a long serving member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
