SUMMARY:NYC: How Stable Is Europe? A Stock-Taking of the Latest Developments in Politics and Financial Markets
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The ACG will host a discussion and luncheon with Dr. Joachim Wuermeling\, Member of the Executive Board\, Deutsche Bundesbank. \nRSVP (acceptances only) to the American Council on Germany at 212-826-3636 or events@acgusa.org. \nJoachim Wuermeling took office as a member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank on November 1\, 2016. He is responsible for the Directorates General Markets and Information Technology. Prior to taking on his current position\, Mr. Wuermeling\, who has a Ph.D. in Law\, held a variety of executive-level posts in the financial and insurance industries as well as in politics. From 2011 until his departure for the Bundesbank\, Mr. Wuermeling was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Sparda-Banken in Frankfurt am Main. Prior to that\, he was a member of the Executive Board of the German Insurance Association (Gesamtverband der Deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft) for around three years. From 2005 to 2008\, Mr. Wuermeling was State Secretary for European Affairs at the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology\, where he was also responsible for coordinating European policy matters. Prior to this\, he was a member of the European Parliament (CSU) from 1999 to 2005. Mr. Wuermeling also is a lecturer on European politics at the Universities of Bayreuth and Potsdam.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The ACG and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung will host a Political Salon with Matthias Meis\, Political Analyst in the Strategic Planning Department of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Consultant on Development Policies and the United Nations at the Federal Chancellor’s Office from 2012 to 2014. \nYou must register through Eventbrite in order to attend. Eventbrite Registration \npolitical salon: promoting dialogue across generations. This series brings together a diverse group of younger and mid-career professionals for informal\, open discussions on a range of current political\, economic\, and social topics in an increasingly interconnected global environment – with an emphasis on issues of concern for the transatlantic agenda. Speakers share brief remarks and engage in a dynamic discussion with participants. Each salon includes refreshments and networking opportunities. \nThis event is timed to coincide with a visit by a delegation of 15 German influencers who hail from various professional backgrounds within the public sector (e.g.\, European Parliament\, the German Bundestag\, and the Junge Union) and private sector (e.g.\, Daimler\, Airbus\, and MAN). Networking opportunities before and after the discussion will give participants ample opportunity to engage with members of the delegation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
