DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The American Council on Germany and Cultural Vistas will host a Political Salon with Simon Book\, Journalist with WirtschaftsWoche. \nYou must register via Eventbrite. \nSimon Book is a German journalist with WirtschaftsWoche in Berlin. He was previously a reporter for Handelsblatt and for Financial Times Deutschland. He holds a bachelor of arts in Media and Communication from the University of Passau and a master of arts in Journalism from the Deutsche Journalistenschule München. Mr. Book has received fellowships from the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington\, DC. He has also received several awards\, including the Hugo Junkers Award for outstanding Aviation Journalism\, the Journalism Prize of the Volks- und Raiffeisen Banking Group\, the Heinrich-Heine-Journalism-Prize\, the Belarus in Focus-Award\, and the Ludwig Erhard Award for Business Journalism. In 2016\, he was selected by the American Council on Germany as an Anna-Maria and Stephen M. Kellen Fellow to conduct research on transatlantic trade.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The ACG will host a luncheon with Ambassador Harald Braun\, Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations. Ambassador Braun will speak about the new administration in the White House and in the United Nations. \nThere will be a charge of $45 for members to attend this event.\n(No-shows and cancellations after January 23 will be billed.) \nRSVP (acceptances only) to the American Council on Germany at 212-826-3636 or events@acgusa.org. \nAmbassador Harald Braun has been the Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations in New York since March 2014. Prior to his nomination\, Ambassador Braun was State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office from 2011 to 2014. Between 2009 and 2011\, he served as the Director-General for Management of the German Foreign Office. From 2003 to 2005\, he was Deputy Foreign and Security Adviser to the Federal Chancellor. Former diplomatic postings include Beirut\, London\, Bujumbura\, Washington\, and Paris. He also served as the Chief of Staff to the Foreign Minister from 1992 to 1994. From 2005 to 2008\, he was on a leave of absence from the diplomatic service as Corporate Senior Vice President for policy and external relations of Siemens AG. In March 2008\, Ambassador Braun was named Research Professor for Global Studies and Diplomacy at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Ambassador Braun studied Economics and History in Tübingen and New York and completed a doctorate at SUNY Stony Brook before entering the Foreign Service in 1981. Ambassador Braun was awarded an Honorary Citizenship of Washington\, DC\, in 2002. He is Grand Officer of the National Order of the French Legion D’Honneur\, bearer of the Grand Cross of the Italian Order of Merit and further international distinctions\, as well as a member of the Knights of the Order of St. John.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
