SUMMARY:Pittsburgh: Over 130 Years of Experience with Apprenticeship Programs in Germany: Enough or Too Much for Implementation in the US?
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Pittsburgh Warburg Chapter and the German-American Chamber of Commerce will host a discussion and luncheon with Torsten Schimanski\, Director of Open Enrollment Training for the New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program (NJMEP). \nThere is no charge to attend this event.\nRSVP here by November 10. \nTorsten Schimanski is the Director of Open Enrollment Training for the New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program (NJMEP)\, a non-profit organization dedicated to the improvement and success of manufacturing companies in NJ. Before joining NJMEP\, Torsten served as the Head of Training & Leaning Center for Festo Didactic\, a global player in the field of Industrial Automation and Education. With his focus on continuing education\, Torsten’s particular experience is within the field of apprenticeship program development. Being a true advocate for dual-education paid-apprenticeship concepts he started his personal career with an apprenticeship in banking and finance in Germany. Torsten has implemented pre- and paid-apprenticeship programs in the US. In 2017 he received the prestigious Impact Award from the New Jersey Technology and Engineering Association (NJTEEA). Torsten Schimanski is a New York resident for about 10 years\, animal lover who also enjoys motorcycles\, Vespas and road cycling. \nAbstract: The dual-apprenticeship program is one of the secrets to the success of German industry. As the starting point for many careers\, apprenticeship is accepted in society. Can we cut and paste it here in the U.S.?  This presentation takes a brief look back to the 1880’s with examples of apprenticeship stories from the manufacturing industry that could change future talent pipelines in the U.S.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
