Ryback is an American historian\, author\, and journalist whose work focuses on twentieth-century European history and the legacy of the Holocaust. He has written on history and politics for more than three decades. He is the author of several books on Hitler’s Germany\, including 53 Days: How Hitler Dismantled a Democracy\, which was recently reviewed by the New York Times\, as well as Hitler’s Private Library\, a Washington Post Best Book of the Year\, and The Last Survivor\, a New York Times Notable Book. His books have been translated into more than 30 languages. Dr. Ryback has published extensively on the complexities of unresolved historical legacies for The New Yorker\, The New York Times Magazine\, The Wall Street Journal\, The Atlantic\, and the Financial Times\, among others. He is the Cofounder and Director of the Institute for Historical Justice and Reconciliation in The Hague. Dr. Ryback previously served as the Deputy Director-General of the Académie Diplomatique Internationale in Paris and as Vice President and Resident Director of the Salzburg Global Seminar in Salzburg\, Austria. Dr. Ryback holds a doctorate from Harvard University\, where he has also served as a lecturer in History and Literature. He and his wife live in Europe. \nThe Dr. Richard M. Hunt Memorial Lecture Series honors late ACG Vice Chairman Dr. Richard M. Hunt\, who was deeply committed to strengthening ties between Germany and the United States and gave exceptional support to the ACG for 50 years. He was the first and longest-serving President in the organization’s history\, from 1972 to 1988\, and subsequently served as Vice Chairman until his passing on April 10\, 2020. During his tenure\, Rick Hunt worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help create the American-German Young Leaders Conference\, launched in 1973\, and the McCloy Fellowship program\, launched in 1976 – both of which remain central to our work today. He also helped shape the German-American Conference. These programs are just a fraction of his many lasting legacies to the Council. His wise counsel\, his keen knowledge of German-American relations\, his faith in younger generations\, and his warm\, unassuming manner are sorely missed.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
