DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The American Council on Germany and the Deutsche Bundesbank are having a discussion with Michael Theurer\, Member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank on “Financial Stability in Unstable Times”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Michael Theurer has been a member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank since September 2024. In this role he oversees the Directorates General Banking and Financial Supervision and Financial Stability. ​Prior to joining the Bundesbank\, he served as Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport from 2021 to 2024\, focusing on railways\, environment\, and European affairs. From 2017 to 2024\, Mr. Theurer was a member of the German Bundestag\, and between 2009 and 2017\, he served as a Member of the European Parliament\, where he chaired the Committee on Budgetary Control from 2011 to 2014. ​ \n  \nMr. Theurer holds a degree in economics from the University of Tübingen. In addition to his role at the Bundesbank\, Mr. Theurer is a member of the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism at the European Central Bank\, a member of the German Financial Stability Committee\, and a member of the Committee on the Global Financial System (CGFS) at the Bank for International Settlements.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The American Council on Germany and Deutsches Haus at NYU are having a discussion and reception with Dr. Constanze Stelzenmueller\, Director\, Center on the United States and Europe\, Senior Fellow\, Foreign Policy\, Center on the United States and Europe\, and Fritz Stern Chair on Germany and Trans-Atlantic Relations (1993 Young Leader Alum) on “What to Expect from the New Government in Berlin.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nDr. Constanze Stelzenmüller is an expert on German\, European\, and trans-Atlantic foreign and security policy and strategy. She is the director of the Center on the United States and Europe and the inaugural holder of the Fritz Stern Chair on Germany and trans-Atlantic Relations at Brookings. She held the Kissinger Chair on Foreign Policy and International Relations at the Library of Congress from October 2019 to March 2020\, and served as the inaugural Robert Bosch Senior Fellow at Brookings from 2014 to 2019. \nPrior to working at Brookings\, she was a senior transatlantic fellow with the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF)\, where she directed the influential Transatlantic Trends survey program. She also managed the “New Power\, New Responsibility” project. Her areas of expertise include: trans-Atlantic relations; German foreign policy; NATO; the European Union’s foreign\, security\, and defense policy; international law; and human rights. \nDr. Stelzenmüller is the former director of GMF’s Berlin office. From 1994 to 2005\, she was defense and international security editor in the political section of the German weekly DIE ZEIT; previously\, she had covered human rights issues\, war crimes tribunals\, and humanitarian crises. She has worked in Germany and the United States\, and speaks English\, French\, German\, and Spanish. Dr. Stelzenmüller holds a doctorate in law from the University of Bonn (1992)\, a master’s degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (1988)\, and a law degree from the University of Bonn (1985). \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
