He studied economics in Munich and Austin/Texas. He served for almost 30 years in the German Armed Forces in various command\, staff assignments and in various foreign missions. He has been a member of the Bundestag since 2009. Kiesewetter is representative of foreign affairs for the CDU/CSU-Caucus and deputy chairperson of the Parliamentary Oversight Panel. In 2022 he was elected as Spokesperson for crisis prevention.
