DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Boston Warburg Chapter and the Brandeis University Center of German and European Studies will host a discussion and light luncheon with Dr. Sebastian Voigt\, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute for Contemporary History Munich – Berlin. \nThere is no charge to attend this event.\nRSVP here by November 6.\nA light lunch will be served. \nSebastian Voigt\, a Doctor of Philosophy\, is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute for Contemporary History Munich – Berlin\, a Fellow at the Institute for Social Movements in Bochum\, and a Teaching Assistant at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Dr. Voigt has published widely in the field of modern European history. His research interests are labor history\, the history of social democracy and Commmunism\, and the history of antisemitism. He is a recipient of several scholarships\, among others from the Fulbright Foundation and the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes. \nAbstract: In contrast to other European countries\, a right-wing populist party has not been successful in Germany for a long time. However\, in the context of the European economic solidarity measures\, the eurosceptic AfD was founded in 2013. In the following years\, it has managed to get into many state parliaments. The refugee crisis contributed to a further rise of the AfD\, changing the political environment in Germany.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The American Council on Germany and the Global Center on Cooperative Security will host a discussion and luncheon with Dr. Guido Steinberg\, Senior Associate\, Middle East & Africa at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (German Institute for International and Security Affairs\, SWP). \nSpace is extremely limited.\nYou must register in order to attend. \nRSVP (acceptances only) to the American Council on Germany\nat 212-826-3636 or events@acgusa.org. \nDr. Guido Steinberg is currently a DAAD/AICGS Research Fellow at the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies in Washington\, DC. In Germany\, he works for Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (the German Institute for International and Security Affairs\, SWP) in Berlin. Previously\, Dr. Steinberg worked as a Research Coordinator at the Free University of Berlin and an advisor on international terrorism in the German Federal Chancellery from 2002 to 2005. \nSince 2006\, he has served as an objective expert witness in all major trials against Islamist terrorists in Germany\, and has also testified in Austria\, Denmark\, the Czech Republic\, and the United States. He regularly comments on Middle Eastern affairs and terrorism on German and international media\, most frequently on Deutsche Welle TV in German\, English\, Arabic\, and Spanish. In his academic work\, Dr. Steinberg focuses on Saudi Arabian and Gulf history and politics\, Islamism\, and Salafism\, as well as Islamist terrorism. He has published widely on these topics\, including his book German Jihad: On the Internationalization of Islamist Terrorism.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
