DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Atlanta Warburg Chapter and the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta will host a breakfast discussion with Klaus-Dieter Frankenberger\, Foreign Editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. \nThere will be a $10 charge to attend this event.\nBreakfast will be provided.\nRSVP here by October 17 at noon. \nKlaus-Dieter Frankenberger is Foreign Editor of the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung\, whose editorial staff he joined in September 1986. Mr. Frankenberger’s writings deal especially with U.S.\, European\, transatlantic\, and international politics. Prior to his positions at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung\, he was a congressional fellow and served as an assistant to a Member of Congress in 1985 and 1986\, thus taking a closer look at the political decision-making process of the United States. Mr. Frankenberger’s academic activities include research positions at the Center for North American Studies in Frankfurt/Main and a Marshall Fellowship at Harvard University in 1990. He holds a degree in American Studies\, Economics\, and Political Science as well as a master’s degree from Frankfurt University.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Pittsburgh Warburg Chapter\, the Center for New American Security\, and the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh will host a Panel Discussion and Luncheon with Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg\, Distinguished Statesman at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and Former German Defense Minister and Minister of Economics and Technology (ACG Board Member and 2003 ACG Young Leader); Ambassador Karin Olofsdotter\, Ambassador of Sweden to the United States and former Director-General for Trade Policy; Dr. Kiron Skinner\, Associate Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Carnegie Melon University; and Julianne Smith\, Senior Fellow and Director of the Transatlantic Security Program at the Center for a New American Security. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Steven E. Sokol\, President of the American Council on Germany. \nThere is a $45 charge to attend this event.\nRSVP here for the event. \nKarl-Theodor zu Guttenberg is the Chairman and Co-Founder of Spitzberg Partners in New York and Distinguished Statesman at CSIS. He first served as Minister of Economics and Technology and then as Minister of Defense in the cabinet of German Chancellor\, Angela Merkel\, Mr. zu Guttenberg was a Member of the German Parliament (Bundestag) from 2002 to 2011\, served as spokesman on the Foreign Affairs Committee\, and was a Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and Secretary General of Germany’s co-governing CSU party. \nAmbassador Karin Olofsdotter is the Swedish Ambassador to the United States and previously served as Sweden’s Director-General for Trade Policy. Prior to this\, she was Deputy Director-General and Head of the Department for Promotion of Sweden\, Trade\, and Corporate Social Responsibility in Stockholm for two years. She also served as Sweden’s Ambassador to Hungary from 2011 to 2014 and as head of the Foreign Minister’s Office. \nDr. Kiron Skinner is a renowned expert in international relations\, U.S. foreign policy\, and political strategy. At Carnegie Mellon University (CMU)\, she is Founding Director of the Center for International Relations and Politics; Founding Director of the Institute for Strategic Analysis; Director of the Institute for Politics and Strategy in the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences; Director of CMU‘s Washington Semester Program; and Associate Professor (tenured) of International Relations and Political Science. She is also a Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution. \nJulianne Smith\, Senior Fellow and Director of the Transatlantic Security Program at the Center for a New American Security\, served as the Deputy National Security Advisor to the Vice President of the United States from 2012 to 2013. Before her post at the White House\, she served for three years as the Principal Director for European and NATO Policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in the Pentagon. \nDr. Steven E. Sokol became President of the American Council on Germany on May 1\, 2015. He served as President and CEO of the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh from July 2010 until April 2015. Prior to that\, he was the Vice President and Director of Programs at the ACG. Dr. Sokol has more than 20 years of experience working with nonprofit organizations in Europe and the United States – and has spent over a decade working at nonpartisan membership-based organizations focusing on a range of domestic and foreign policy issues.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
