DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Seattle Warburg Chapter\, the University of Washington’s Center for West European Studies\, and the Middle East Center will hold a discussion with Anja Wehler-Schoeck\, Resident Director of Jordan and Iraq for the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES). \nThere is no charge to attend this event. Registration is not required. \nAnja Wehler-Schoeck currently serves as Resident Director of the Amman Office of the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES). In this capacity\, she is responsible for the foundation’s work in Jordan and Iraq. FES Amman focuses on promoting democracy and social justice with activities covering a broad spectrum\, ranging from parliamentary consultations to youth projects and a special line of work dedicated to political Islam and extremism. Ms. Wehler-Schoeck joined FES in 2005 and has held various positions at the Berlin headquarters of the organization. Before relocating to Jordan in 2012\, she served as Desk Officer for the United States\, Canada\, and Japan. Prior to joining FES\, her assignments led her to Tunisia\, Jordan\, and the United States. She is the author of a number of German and English publications on the Middle East and is a regular contributor to various media with her analyses on Jordan\, Iraq\, political Islam\, and security policy. Ms. Wehler-Schoeck holds a Dual Master’s Degree in Political Science from Sciences Po Paris\, France\, and the Free University of Berlin\, Germany.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Seattle Warburg Chapter and Central Washington University will host a discussion and reception with Professor Hannes Adomeit.  \nThere is no charge to attend this event. Registration is not required. \nProfessor Hannes Adomeit was most recently a Bosch Public Policy Fellow at the Transatlantic Academy in Washington\, DC\, writing a paper on German-Russian relations under Merkel and Putin. Until 2014\, he was Professor for Russian and European Studies at the Warsaw campus of the College of Europe. Prior to that\, he was a Research Associate and head of the research section on Russia\, Eastern Europe\, and the Caucasus at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs in Berlin. His academic degrees include\, in Germany\, an M.A. in Political Science from the Freie Universität in Berlin and\, in the United States\, an M.A. degree in International Relations\, a Certificate in Russian Studies\, and a Ph.D. with distinction\, all from Columbia University in New York City. In the past\, he also held teaching and/or research positions at institutions in se­veral countries\, including the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London\, the Royal Military College of Canada\, and the Rand Corporation in Santa Monica\, California. From 1989 to 1997\, he was Professor of International Politics and Director of the Program on Russia and East-Central Europe at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplo­macy in Boston as well as a Fellow at the Harvard Russian Research Center. He has written many arti­cles in academic journals and books\, including Imperial Overstretch: Germany in Soviet Policy from Stalin to Gorbachev: An Analysis Based on New Archival Evidence\, Memoirs\, and Interviews. He was born in 1942 in Memel\, East Prussia\, now Klaipeda\, Lithuania.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
