The ACG has launched a study tour program to give professionals from various fields a specialized, behind-the-scenes look at contemporary issues in German politics, economics, and society. Participants from various backgrounds – including business and journalism – meet privately with high-level German officials and observers to discuss key topics of concern and to exchange ideas.
The ACG conducted a study tour of the new Bundesländer from March 21 to 26, 2004, to give corporate and individual members a firsthand look at current conditions in the region. The group met with figures from the public and private sector in Berlin and in four of the five new Länder to discuss topics ranging from regional economic development to the general social, economic, and political climate to foreign and security policy. Private meetings were held with officials including Brandenburg’s Minister-President, Matthias Platzeck; Saxony’s Minister-President, Georg Milbradt; Brandenburg’s Minister of the Interior, Jörg Schönbohm; and Thuringia’s Minister for Federal and European Affairs, Hans Kaiser. The group also paid site visits to Dow Chemicals in Saxony-Anhalt, the Brandenburg Farmers’ Association, Volkswagen’s glass factory in Dresden, and the Bundeswehr’s Jägerbrigade 37 just outside of Chemnitz. Participating members included businesspeople, lawyers, academics, and a former public official.
