The ACG provides a forum in New York for the discussion of timely issues of transatlantic and international relevance, from politics and security to economics and finance. Members hear from a spectrum of speakers, including senior German government officials and business leaders, along with European figures from the private and public sectors. The ACG strives to address current events as they unfold.
Policy Program Series
The American Council on Germany’s Policy Program Series in New York encompasses events with prominent officials, analysts, and other influential figures in larger, lecture-style discussion programs and smaller, high-level briefings alike. About 25 events are held in New York annually.
The ACG also offers two specialized lecture series on an ongoing basis: the McCloy Lecture Series and the Arthur F. Burns Memorial Lecture.
McCloy Lectures
The American Council on Germany launched the McCloy Lecture Series in 2002 to mark its 50th anniversary, to provide members with a close look at European-American relations from the perspectives of top government officials and corporate leaders, and to honor John J. Arthur F. Burns Lectures
The ACG also hosts Arthur F. Burns Memorial Lectures featuring top experts in the field of finance to honor Arthur F. Burns, who served as a U.S. Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and as President of the Federal Reserve Board. The most recent lecture featured Axel Weber, the new President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, on “A Blueprint for Growth: Prospects for Germany in an Enlarged Euro Zone.” In his inaugural speech in the United States, Dr. Weber gave a sweeping overview of the state of the economy in Germany, wider Europe, and beyond, and outlined his prescriptions for promoting growth and encouraging reform efforts.
